Steven Kazlowski earned a degree in marine biology from Towson State University in Baltimore before setting out for Alaska twelve years ago to pursue his true passion: wildlife photography. His photos have been featured in Vanity Fair, Time, National Wildlife, Audubon, Backpacking, and Canadian National Geographic magazines, and he has self-published two books: Bears of the North and Alaska Wildlife Impressions.

He spent over eight years photographing forThe Last Polar Bear: Facing the Truth of a Warming World (Braided River, 2008). As a result of his work on that conservation title, he received the Sierra Club’s 2008 Ansel Adams Award. Kazlowski is known within the photography community for his skills of observation and his determination to capture an image even in extreme weather conditions.
